Scene analysis from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

There is a scene from the film where Daniel Craig is sneaking around the killer’s property and gets stuck there and saved by the Rooney Mara. So what happens in this scene which makes it very unique and different is the lighting and timing of this scene. It is unusually long which adds a whole lot of suspense which adds to the amount of attention  given from the audience. Daniel Craig is snooping around the killer’s house looking for clues and details that he can find nowhere else. Then all of a sudden, we hear a car pull into the driveway and Daniel Craig panics and tries to get out of the house. He does, to an extent. This is a very private area and nobody is supposed to be trespassing. He gets out of the house but leaves a few doors open on accident. This is also very unique because Daniel Craig is usually seen being an overall badass since he is James Bond in other films; this time he is seen as a weak figure and completely not a baddass. However, he falls on his way out on some rocks outside the killer’s house. The killer sees him on the horizon after hearing him fall and asks Craig if he’d come in and join him for a drink; Craig reluctantly accepts the offer because he is scared of the killer (who wouldn’t be). So they go in and have a drink, the killer notices something was wrong with Craig and notices that a knife was missing out of his Kitchen and knew that Craig had it. The killer then takes a gun out of the drawer then points it at Craig and leads Craig to his basement to “talk”. He then puts on a gas mask and sets off a chemical attack of some sorts on Craig. He wakes up in this harness hanging from the ceiling and helpless; he is going to die. However at the last second, Rooney Mara comes into the house and the basement and hits the killer on the back of the head with a pipe of some sorts. Rooney gets Craig out of the harness and goes after the killer and gets into a high speed chase with him when she’s on a motorcycle.  He gets into a car crash and his car explodes. What makes these sequences of events so special is that finally in the end, the killer gets what he deserves. The editing was also fantastic because it truly affects the mood and the emotions the audience feels. That is what made this scene and film great.
